YOU NEED THIS CARD
As of September 15, 2002, operators of powered vessels under 4 meters in length, including personal watercraft, are required to show proof of competency and as of September 15, 2009, all operators of powered vessels are require to show proof of competency. We will assist you in obtaining this card through our certified instructors.
All persons who operate a VHF
Marine Radio must carry a Restricted Radiotelephone Operator's Certificate
by Law.
You should contact
us immediately to find out when we offer the next course to obtain this
card.
You still need a VHF Station Licence ... if you plan to voyage in U.S. waters, you still require the Station Licence. Plans for a reciprocal agreement relieving Canadian boaters of this requirement, were abandoned due to the change in security attitudes following 9/11. More info click here.
Learn the phonetic alphabet, as well as correct radiotelephone operating procedures. This course will enable you to pass the Industry Canada's Restricted Radiotelephone Operator's Certificate Exam, which will be given at the conclusion of the teaching session.
Digital Selective Calling (DSC), allows mariners to instantly send an automatically formatted distress alert to the Coast Guard or other rescue authority anywhere in the world. Digital selective calling also allows mariners to initiate or receive distress, urgency, safety and routine radiotelephone calls to or from any similarly equipped vessel or shore station, without requiring either party to be near a radio loudspeaker. DSC acts like the dial and bell of a telephone, allowing you to "direct dial" and "ring" other radios, or allow others to "ring" you, without having to listen to a speaker. New VHF and HF radiotelephones have or soon will have DSC capability.
We offer a variety of courses for all aspects of boating and look forward to your input on any courses you may be interested in. The main course which gives you membership privileges as well as your Pleasure Craft Operators Card (PCOC) is the Boating course. We also offer Boat Pro and the VHF Marine Radio Operator.
This CCG accredited course is intended to provide elementary instruction in boat handling, for safe operation of a boat in sheltered waters during daylight hours.
The Boating Course is open to the public. Separated into Parts I and II, students may take the CCG exam after completing Part I. With a passing grade of 75%, students will receive their CCG Pleasure Craft Operator Card. CPS examination of the entire course follows completion of Part II.
Boat Pro is one of the first to be accredited by the Canadian
Coast Guard and contains all the information
needed to achieve operator competency and a Pleasure Craft Operator Card. A
leader in its field, the Boat Pro Manual is a great introduction to the boating
safety and navigation information. Soon almost everyone will require the (PCOC)
and we are ready and able to assist you in acquiring your card.
Please feel free to contact anyone on our bridge, or our Training Officer, Bill McAlister .
CPS offers Independent Self Study, Distance Education and On Line Studies through our Squadron with Registered teachers in our area. We are doing our very best to make safe boating education available to you in all venues.
